About Me

HI!  WELCOME to TO GROW A FAMILY!

If you . . . are longing to bring your family beyond “survival mode” into a place where  your marriage can flourish and your kids can thrive, you’ll feel right at home here!

If you. . . desire to make your home an emotionally “safe place,” a place you and your family can’t wait to get back to, this blog is for you!

If you . . . want to make God the center of your family–to be able to fellowship with your spouse and pass your faith on to your children–you’re in the right place!

It’s not easy to keep your marriage strong and raise children who follow God instead of the crowd.  Today’s world with its secular values applies pressure to both parents and children to conform to its ways. Busy schedules make it hard to survive–let alone thrive– as a family. Too often we end up passing each other like ships in the night ferrying kids to practices and answering work e-mails at home from bosses who seem to think we’re available 24/7.

Beyond that, many of us earnestly desire a godly family but lacked role models of healthy marriages and parenting when we were growing up. It was just such a concern that led me on a journey to discover what makes a healthy family. It’s my goal to pass on what I’ve learned to you.

About Me

I admit it. I’m a tea-loving bookworm and a romantic. (I’ll watch anything Jane Austin and everything Downton Abbey.) When I’m stressed I like to grab my Canon Rebel, tromp around trails, and capture the wonders of Creation. In my day job I’m a licensed teacher who homeschools special needs high schoolers. I also chase after my granddaughters occasionally while my daughter and son-in-law work.

In short: I’m a wife, a mom, a grandparent, a certified professional educator, a seminary graduate (M.Div.), a speaker, a writer, a homeschooler, and a former pastor’s wife (we met in seminary–I’ll tell the amazing story one of these days!).

Together with my husband Rick, I’ve taught many classes and spoken at conferences on building your marriage and raising kids. Also, over the years it’s been our joy to meet with MANY engaged couples for premarital counseling. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping couples get off to the right start in their marriage!

In my off time I’m a Renaissance woman. Sometimes I make my husband dizzy with my many interests–photography, reading, hiking, music, history, education, art are just a few of them.

But most of all, I’m a woman of faith. Every day is an adventure for me as I seek to follow Jesus Christ.

So grab a cup of coffee (or tea), curl up in your favorite chair, and join me on the journey of learning what it takes TO GROW A FAMILY!
